David Guetta and ARTBAT have officially released their take on Gotye and Kimbra's "Somebody That I Used To Know," bringing one of dance music's longest-running recent festival IDs to streaming.
From festival ID to official release
The track had already been living in DJ sets long before release week. An ARTBAT remix of "Somebody That I Used To Know" was appearing in festival sets by summer 2025, including Tomorrowland performances, and continued circulating as fans waited for an official version.
David Guetta later became part of the rework. During his Tomorrowland appearance in July 2026, he played the joint version during his Tomorrowland 2026 Mainstage set, giving the collaboration one of its biggest pre-release plays.
A familiar song rebuilt for festival stages
The new version keeps Gotye and Kimbra's unmistakable vocals at the center while rebuilding the production around them for a much larger electronic setting. The restrained tension of the original gives way to the kind of scale that has allowed the rework to sit naturally inside both ARTBAT and Guetta's festival sets.
The source material is already one of the most recognizable songs of its era. Gotye's original featuring Kimbra topped the Billboard Hot 100 before going on to win Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2013 Grammys.
Guetta and ARTBAT work together again
This is not the first time Guetta and ARTBAT have crossed paths on a release. The pair previously worked together on 2022's "It's Ours" alongside Idris Elba.
The Gotye rework, though, has had a much longer public life before reaching streaming. Different versions have been heard across festival sets for more than a year, with Guetta eventually joining ARTBAT on the finished release.
After all that time as an ID, "Somebody That I Used To Know" is finally out now.
