'Scared' is not a new July release. Fred again.., Young Thug and Lil Yachty released the collaboration on January 23, 2026 after Fred previewed it during a Twitch livestream in November 2025.
The track reworks snippets from Young Thug's unreleased 2018 song 'Lucky', lifting the vocal out of its earlier trap context and placing it inside Fred's larger-scale electronic production.
Its accompanying video is the second part of a three-video story following a character named Brandon on a night out, giving the release a narrative frame separate from Fred's live-show footage.
The vocal comes from an unreleased Young Thug track
Pitchfork identified the source material as 'Lucky', an unreleased Young Thug track from 2018. Fred's version uses that material as the emotional center of a very different production environment.
The contrast is what makes the record interesting: a familiar Young Thug vocal texture, but without the original trap backdrop that listeners might expect around it.
Scared arrived in January
The single was released on January 23, well before this piece was written, and had already been previewed on Twitch back in November 2025. That makes this retrospective context rather than breaking news.
The track also sits within Fred again..'s evolving 'USB' project, which has continued to absorb collaborations and club records outside a conventional album cycle.
