Japan's Illumi Maeda, known as DJ ILLU, has earned a Guinness World Records title as the world's youngest female club DJ, completing her record-breaking performance at just six years and 99 days old.

She played for more than an hour at a club in Yokohama, Kanagawa. The attempt came with equipment problems and nerves, but she finished the set, later telling Guinness World Records how relieved she was to have managed it.

Illumi beat the previous record by 56 days. Fellow Japanese DJ RINOKA had set it at six years and 155 days old, according to her Guinness profile.

She started DJing at three, learning from her mother's DJ friends. Music was already part of everyday life at home, and she credits Avicii's tracks with lifting her spirits and helping her understand how music can affect people.

For Illumi, the appeal is watching people dance and hearing a mix come together. She fits practice around school and homework, with ambitions to play festivals around the world and attempt another DJ-related record.

There's another plan on her list, too: "I also want to open an ice cream shop and DJ there too!" she told Guinness.
